What it measures

Cognitive empathy (inferring the mental state in a photographed person) and emotional empathy (self-rated concern for and arousal by that person), measured separately in one task.

Length and format

~40 photographs (versions differ; a 24-item short form is in use). performance multiple-choice for the cognitive scale plus 9-pt self-ratings for the emotional scales (performance/ability test)

Language versions

~15 languages; the photographic stimuli are largely language-independent, so adaptation is mostly of the response options
